Abstract
While the radiographic appearance of an os acromiale is not uncommon in patients presenting with shoulder pain, a symptomatic, unstable os acromiale is relatively rare. That said, many present have been missed in the setting of prior rotator cuff surgery, and subsequent ongoing symptoms require stabilization of the os acromiale in addition to revision rotator cuff repair. Occasionally, younger adults may present with a symptomatic unstable os acromiale after a minor or major trauma. If the surgeon recognizes this as a possibility of ongoing shoulder pain once other factors are ruled out, this problem will be identified and treated when necessary.
